When applying to a university in the USA, an application letter gives you a great chance to introduce yourself and can be the difference between being accepted or rejected from your favored university. Each university has its own requirements for application letters and these should be closely followed in order to succeed. A common theme within application letters is that of your motivation, goals and experience as they all relate to higher education within the USA. The application letter needs to reflect your absolute best writing as this will be the first sample of your writing skills, not to mention your personality, the university encounter.

Remain Focused At All Times

Make sure that you are doing exactly what is asked of you in your application letter by ensuring that you are taking cues from the prompts given to you in the application form. If it seems that the prompt given is very general and covers a wide scope then decide exactly what point you want to make overall, be it that you can deal with hard work, that you have that special something or simply that that you are a proven achiever. Make sure that what you are writing is personal and that you are not simply waffling on about the subject that you wish to study.

Be Coherent

Nothing scuppers your university application letter quicker than a poorly written and punctuated letter. A clearly organized and well written letter purveys a clear-minded and intelligent student. This can be easily achieved by creating an outline and several drafts of main points before you begin to draft the application letter. Ensure that everything is well structured and, perhaps most importantly, thoroughly proofread. Nothing turns a reader off more than silly spelling mistakes and poor grammar.

Stay Personal

Your application letter serves as a first impression for the university. They have asked you to tell stories, mention details, expand on facts. So make sure that you mention other relevant things that you might not have put into the rest of the application, such as your political background for instance. Don’t be afraid to mention problems or minor weaknesses that you hold as this will work to ensure that your application is personal, honest and is written from the heart, rather than simply a stock letter sent out to every university.

When it comes to buying a printer, graphic design students have to shop carefully. Many people use their printers only for printing text documents and an occasional photo. Graphic design students, however, need to print graphics projects in a variety of sizes and colors. Students have the option to buy online if a printer is not in stock at a local store, but anyone buying a printer for graphic design use should consider all the options available to them.

Epson Stylus Photo R1800

This printer model is ideal for design students who are concerned about conserving printer ink, but still need the advanced functions of a printer designed for photos and graphics. This high-resolution printer supports poster printing, prints directly onto DVDs and CDs, and prints photos quickly. It is compatible with Windows and Mac machines, making it a versatile machine for any graphic design student.

Canon i900

The Canon i900 is another printer designed especially for printing colorful photos and graphics. The machine uses very little printer ink compared to other photo printers, but it offers high-quality photo prints. The Canon i900 has six individual ink tanks and an intelligent ink management system, which helps produce high-quality images without wasting printer ink. The included software automatically adjusts its settings to produce the best images. However, consumers should be aware that this line of printer is notoriously fussy when it comes to the ink and toner cartridges it uses, so it is advised you only used Canon brand products for this device. Although normally more expensive to buy, Canon brand ink can be purchased online for discounted prices at portals such as www.toner24.co.uk/Toner/Canon or on Amazon.co.uk.

Epson Artisan 50

The Epson Artisan 50 is known for its high-quality graphics. This machine prints images in six colors, which is ideal for rich, colorful photos. The Epson Artisan 50 also prints directly on CDs and DVDs. This machine is ideal for those worried about printer ink prices, as it has individual ink cartridges. When a color runs out, the owner just has to buy one new cartridge instead of having to replace all six colors at once.

Graphic design students have special needs when it comes to selecting cost-effective printers, especially if they want to buy online. Although it is possible to get a great deal online, anyone in the market for a good photo or design printer should look at several machines in person. It is also much cheaper to buy online when it comes to ordering ink and printer supplies.

English is the most widely spoken language in the world, which is why many students and young professionals are learning it as a second language. As with learning any new language, learning English takes a lot of effort and discipline, but following some simple steps can make the process a whole lot easier.

1. Read, Write, and Study

You should read a lot and as often as possible. It may seem strange, but reading small children’s books is a great way to get introduced to words and basic sentence structure. In addition to books, there are also many websites that will help you learn a second language for free.

2. Focus on words and phrases

You will need to build your vocabulary. When learning to read, look up words that you do not know in a dictionary then write the definitions of those words at least 7 times. Study these words and make up a test for yourself, or go and take spelling tests online. They are fun and are a great way to learn.

3. Repetition

This is the most difficult step of all. Learning a second language can be difficult and often times very tedious. You must repeat words that you do not know, and you must try to remember words again and again until it stays in your memory. You have to practice reading and writing English so you can become more familiar with it. Remember, practice makes perfect.

4. Visit!

If you have the opportunity to visit an English speaking country then you should most definitely take advantage of it. If you are a student, you many want ask your school counselor about taking a semester to study abroad. This will give you a chance to study the language while you study for a degree.

5. Hone Your Skills

After a good deal of practice your second language will slowly start to come more easily to you. There are over 1 million words in the English Language and that number is always growing. But with some hard work and practice, you can master English and open a world of need opportunity.

The United States of America offers many opportunities to study, work and visit. Whatever your reason to come to the land of opportunity, you must first obtain the proper documentation in order to enter the country.

Decide why you want to come to the USA

The type of visa you will need will depend on what you will be doing while in the USA. It is important that you start filling out all the necessary information at least 4 months before you plan to move. There are three main types of temporary visas: temporary worker, student visa, and visitor visa (business or pleasure). If you plan to study in the USA it is extremely important that you get accepted to your selected academic program before applying for a visa.

Visit Your Nearest Consulate

There you will find all of the forms you will need to fill out, depending on whether you plan to study, work, visit, or immigrate. You can also get your photo taken for your passport. Remember that not all applicants have the same paperwork. People from Middle Eastern countries or Cuba, for example, must fill out additional paperwork.

Prepare to Prove Your Purpose

All applicants must be able to prove there reason for coming to the USA. If you are planning to study in the United States, having your transcripts will be very beneficial in obtaining your visa. Applicants between the ages of 14 and 79 must complete an in-person interview, which will focus on the time you will spend in the USA, when you plan to return, and you will do fine.

Raise the Money

Be sure to save enough money to apply for your visa. The DS-156, a required form costs $131 for processing. Once again, people from certain countries may have to pay additional fees. If you plan to study abroad, then be sure to look up any scholarships that might reduce your costs during your stay. There are many independent grants and scholarships, and also many school sponsored grants as well.

Choosing your desired degree when studying abroad in the USA should not be something that is rushed into. The degree that you hold can go a large way to affecting your career path and ultimately having a huge effect upon your entire life. It is absolutely vital that you pick a degree to suit your ambitions, especially if you choose to do so by studying abroad.

Choose the Right Area of Study

The first important step to take before picking an individual subject is to establish a rough area of study. This can be done rather easily as courses are often put into certain faculties or sections within USA universities. Even if you don’t know the exact subject you want to study, it is more than likely that you know if you want to study science, languages, sports, humanities etc.

What Are Your Skills?

In picking a degree, you need to ensure that you play to your strengths. Are you imaginative and arty? If so, then an art based course is almost definitely the one for you. Are you good with words? Then a degree within an English or Humanities faculty should be what you are considering. The same can be said for those with a more numeric brain and the study of a numbers based subject would clearly be of merit to you. Once you have narrowed your options down and chosen your specific topic areas which reflect your skills then you are almost ready to pick a specific subject.

Looking to the Future

You need to consider what you see yourself doing in ten to fifteen years’ time. Whilst it may seem like an early time to start thinking of such things, if you are genuinely interested in studying abroad in the USA then this should be something you will need to consider. Once you have narrowed it down to a few different professions or at least sectors or work then you should be more comfortable in picking the degree that you will stick with when studying abroad

Picking the One

Once you have made a decision on your chosen profession you need to find out exactly what qualifications are needed in order to get a job in that profession. This should be your first choice for degree whether studying abroad in the USA or anywhere in the world as a successful degree in the chosen subject will clearly be an advantage to you. However, don’t worry too much as certain degrees are useful in others subjects, for instance a politics degree can be easily transferred to become a lawyer in the USA.

America is a diverse melting pot of cultures filled with numerous opportunities for students, which is why many students nowadays are looking to further their life experience by studying in the US. However, applicants should prepare themselves properly before making the great voyage to the US.

Money

Try to have some USA dollars when you first get into The States. This may sound incredibly obvious, but many people turn up in a new country often assume they can just draw out some cash when they arrive. Although this is true, people forget that you may need some money to travel in a taxi cab from the airport to your accommodation. Also, studying abroad can be expensive so be sure to set a budget and stick to it. You may consider opening a checking account at an American bank in order to ease currency transactions.

Communication

While studying abroad in the USA it is important to keep in contact with your loved ones at home. Talking on the phone can be expensive, so you will have to purchase phone cards or use a free online phone website. They can make it easy for you to stay in touch with your family and loved ones. You will also have to bring a power cord adapter since the USA has different power sockets to most other countries in the world.

Customs

The USA has some particular customs that must be taken into consideration. For instance, while at a restaurant it is customary to tip your waitress at least 10% of your bill. Also, many cafes and restaurants offer lunch specials that usually start around 11:00 am and end at around 2:00 pm, which is good to know when wanting to save the pennies. It is also important to note legal drinking age in the USA is 21!

Social Life

You will need to have a few subjects to talk about with people that you meet while studying abroad. If you are talking to a young man then bring up video games or (American) Football. If speaking to a young woman then try recent romance fantasy novels involving vampires. They might not like it, but that in itself it will be a conversation starter.

The USA is a very popular choice among students from Europe and Asia as a place to study. In addition to offering numerous word renowned universities and college, the US also offers visitors a unique way of living and wonderful life experience opportunities. Students with an interest in a business related career path will also benefit from the contacts that can be made in one of the world’s most industrially rich countries. However, studying in the US requires a lot of prior-planning, and students wishing to apply should take these following points into account.

Meet with an Advisor

Each university has a different policy in regards to foreign students’ applications. Some also have certain credit transfer policies and may even differ from major to major. An advisor, either at your own university or at the one you are planning to apply to, will be able to help you decide which program that satisfies your credit requirements while giving you a chance to study abroad. Start running possibilities through you head and ask yourself what you want to experience while studying abroad. Is climate important to you? How about a University’s reputation? Do you want a rural or urban setting? These are all things that need to be considered when deciding just exactly where in the US you want to study.

Research and Apply

There is a high demand for study abroad programs, and the USA is one of the most popular destinations. Decide what kind of experience you want to have: intern, teach, volunteer, or simple study abroad. You will want to apply to at least two or three university programs in case your do not get your first choice.
Meet with your study abroad advisor as soon as you apply. Select the classes you will take while in the USA and make sure that they are relevant to your university degree. Apply early for grants, scholarships, and student aid. Ask your advisor if your school provides any tuition assistance or exchange programs with any American universities.

Regardless of which university you choose, you will have to get a passport and, in some cases a visa, take care of any personal business before you depart, purchase travel insurance, get an international student ID, and, of course, pack your belongings!
